Mothers Project

Bridging Cultures. Supporting Mothers. Strengthening Families.

Refugee and migrant mothers often face isolation, cultural barriers, and uncertainty about how to access support. The Mothers Project is designed to empower these women by helping them build strong community connections and bridge cultural gaps in healthcare and parenting.

Our goal is simple: to strengthen mothers’ emotional well-being so they can build healthier, more resilient families.

Mothers Project Main Activities

Motherhood Across Cultures Course

Workshops

This supportive training offers mothers the opportunity to recharge, connect with other women, and gain practical tools for raising children in the Netherlands.

What to expect:

A 10 free weekly group sessions, led by trained volunteers. A safe and welcoming space for sharing experiences through topics that include:

  • Parenting in two cultures
  • Strengthening parenting skills
  • Building social support
  • Managing stress and promoting well-being
  • Nurturing personal dreams and goals

And more!

Each session is followed by a Dutch language lesson, giving participants a chance to practice the language in a friendly environment.

Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours per session.

We also organize thematic workshops focused on key aspects of motherhood, parenting, and family life.

These sessions are led by healthcare and education professionals (such as representatives from the GGD and OKT) and by experienced community members.

They are accessible to mothers who participate in the Motherhood Across Cultures Course, but are also open to the broader community and, if there is interest, to fathers as well.

The aim is to connect refugee families with the Dutch healthcare, education, and social support systems, making these services easier to understand and access.
