Mijn Toekomst - Jouw Toekomst
Helping parents and caregivers find practical educational approaches to promote healthy development for children.
“Mijn Toekomst – Jouw Toekomst” (My Future – Your Future) is a project dedicated to highlighting the often unseen and underestimated reality of undocumented children and their families in New-West Amsterdam. It aims to support these families as they strive to provide their children with a brighter future, despite the many challenges they face.

The roots of this initiative trace back to a school playground 3.5 years ago when Maricela Garcia observed a significant communication gap between non-Dutch-speaking parents and teachers. The language barrier made it difficult for them to understand one another, creating obstacles in effectively supporting the children. Recognizing this need, Maricela launched practical initiatives to assist these families.
By 2024, her efforts had evolved into a structured project, aligning with the specific needs of the municipality of Amsterdam and local schools to better reach this unique group of families. This newly formalized initiative was named “Mijn Toekomst – Jouw Toekomst” and is now one of the projects run by Road of Hope Foundation.
In collaboration with governmental institutions: schools, healthcare system and other facilities concerning child care and parenting, and with community leaders, and the families themselves, the project’s mission is to raise awareness and, where possible, find solutions for those determined to overcome barriers and build a better future for their children.

Practical Guidance
The thematic workshops provide valuable insights for parents, featuring expert speakers and experienced professionals. Topics range from child protection, parenting strategies, and development to family dynamics and more. These sessions empower parents with practical knowledge and support for raising their children effectively.
This initiative serves as a bridge between families and their children’s schools, offering guidance on the Dutch educational system and parenting approaches in the Netherlands with educational support, basic social services and parenting support. Furthermore, parents can participate in civic integration workshops, including lessons on Dutch norms, values, and parenting courses, helping them confidently navigate life in the Netherlands.
