Strengthening the Voice of Informal Organisations

How can the experiential knowledge of grassroots and informal organisations be better recognized in policymaking and neighbourhood support systems?

This research explores the challenges informal organisations face in gaining recognition from formal institutions and district authorities, despite their deep community connections and valuable on-the-ground expertise. The report highlights structural gaps in collaboration, the need for inclusive decision-making processes, and the importance of jointly defining and measuring social impact.

The research was conducted through a collaboration between Road of Hope FoundationStichting Nadia SbaiStichting Home Empowerment, and researchers from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, in dialogue with members of Netwerk Informele Zorg.

Based on direct input from informal organisations and discussions with community and institutional partners, the report offers practical insights and recommendations to strengthen cooperation and ensure that community knowledge is meaningfully included in local governance.
