The Bridge of Hope project is restarting its impactful activities in 2025, continuing its mission to bring social cohesion to Noord. With a focus on reducing barriers to social integration and combating isolation, the project offers various programs, including home visits, inclusive cooking workshops, food distribution.
One of the highlights of this year’s program is the Heldin course, an inspiring initiative designed for women, promoted through a collaboration between Bridge of Hope and the Red Cross.
Heldin (“Heroine”) is a seven-session training program created by women, for women. It equips participants with the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to handle emergency situations at home or in public spaces. The course includes first aid training, resuscitation techniques, and AED usage.
Beyond practical skills, Heldin also focuses on social development, covering themes such as Daring to act and address others; Asking for help when needed; Communicating effectively; and Managing stress, resistance, and conflict. Participants who complete the training will receive both a valid two-year First Aid certificate and a Heldin certificate.
The course begins with an introductory session on February 3rd, featuring a presentation by the Red Cross. The course will run until March, with a participation fee of just €5, which includes all materials provided.

An important step toward Integration
In addition to Heldin, Bridge of Hope will provide Dutch language lessons for a group of Syrians living in Amsterdam Noord. Since early 2024, this group has been connecting through coffee gatherings and community events. Now, they are ready to take the next step by overcoming language barriers and fostering deeper integration.
The Dutch classes will begin on February 21st and will be held every Friday in Amsterdam Noord. These lessons aim to empower participants by equipping them with essential language skills to navigate everyday life more confidently.
