In late November, Road of Hope concluded another season of Painting 21+, one of the core activities of the Together Project in Amsterdam. Designed especially for Ukrainians aged 21 and older, this workshop has become a place of calm and connection for people who fled the war in Ukraine. Week after week, participants arrive not only to paint, but to reclaim moments of peace, expression, and belonging.

In the days leading up to the final session that brought together sixteen Ukrainian participants, the coordinator Alina Bielun and her colleague sensed something different pulsing through the group. Participants filled chats with questions, excitement, plans to attend together, and even invitations for friends to join. That anticipation was reflected in the session, with everyone starting their work promptly and with noticeable motivation.
The class unfolded with a sense of freedom and artistic confidence that had blossomed over the last eight months. Many pieces looked like final projects, vivid, thoughtful compositions that captured the skills, emotions, and personal growth nurtured throughout the season.

During a small closing exhibition, participants moved through the room offering warm reflections:
“It was my first time, but I managed to relax and distract myself. I’m glad I could attend.”
“It’s so great that it’s a group. You watch others and get inspired—I really enjoyed it.”
“I’m impressed by the colors in the works and grateful for this opportunity.”
“The mountains and waterfall turned out very beautiful.”
Four newcomers joined the group for the first time and immediately felt at home, commenting on the respectful atmosphere and the liberating sense of creative freedom.
A short tea break, shared conversation, and a final round of gratitude closed the gathering. What remained was a palpable sense of togetherness, a reminder that art can offer support where words fall short.
