Road of Hope

What will the future look like for Ukrainians living in the Netherlands after the current Temporary Protection framework comes to an end?

Road of Hope invites you to the second edition of our Open Dialogue series, organised as part of the Together Project in Amsterdam Noord. The event will take place on Friday, 21 August, from 18:00 to 20:00.

The Open Dialogue series creates space for meaningful conversations about integration, belonging, and the experiences of people who have been forced to flee their homes. Following the first edition, which focused on finding a place in the Dutch educational system, this second conversation addresses an issue that is increasingly important for the Ukrainian community: what comes next after the Temporary Protection framework?

For many Ukrainians living in the Netherlands, questions about the future remain unanswered. What are the Dutch government’s plans? What options could be available after Temporary Protection? What transition arrangements might be possible? What support can people expect, and what should they prepare for?

To explore these questions, we are pleased to welcome Erik Klaver, Member of the Management Team at the Programme Directorate-General for Displaced Ukrainians at the Ministry of Justice and Security.

Rather than focusing only on presentations, this Open Dialogue is designed as a genuine conversation between the guest and the community. A large part of the evening will be dedicated to questions and answers, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions directly, share their concerns and perspectives, and engage in an open discussion about the future.

We encourage you to come with the questions that matter to you, whether they concern residence, possible transition options, support, work, family, or simply what you can expect in the years ahead.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required. Register for the Open Dialogue.

An important update on Temporary Protection

While the event title refers to March 2027, the Dutch government has recently published information indicating that the Temporary Protection Directive may remain in effect in the Netherlands until and including 4 March 2028. This recent development makes the conversation about the future particularly relevant. The Open Dialogue offers an opportunity to better understand the current situation, hear directly from a government representative, and bring the community’s questions into the discussion.

Come with your questions, concerns and hopes. Let’s open the conversation together.
